The Colours We See by Kaisa Winter
Hi there reader, today I'm here with review of The Colours We See by Kaisa Winter, who was generous enough to provide me with a copy of her book.
Let's get into it, shall we?
Book Name : The Colours We See
Author : Kaisa Winter
Genres : Romance, Contemporary, NA
Plot :
A lost girl. A troubled musician. The road trip of a lifetime.
Hazel lands in America with nothing but a backpack, a craving for adventure, and a past she would rather forget. She is eager to live life as she always imagined it – free, wild, unpredictable.
When brilliant but aloof singer-songwriter Liam invites her to join his band as they tour all over the States, she doesn’t have to think twice. Suddenly she’s travelling, performing, and falling hard for this talented, complicated boy. But when things begin to spiral out of control, Hazel realises that no matter how hard she tries, she can’t outrun herself.
THE COLOURS WE SEE is an under-the-skin love story brimming with music, art, parties and heartbreak. How far can we go to escape ourselves before it’s too late to turn back?
Review :
So to firstly answer your question that "Why should I read this book?" let me help you, okay?
1. Adventure worth of a lifetime but it may cost a lifetime as well.
Hazel left her protected life, which was suffocating her, with her mother, outside the cage of protection to finally fly on her own. Landing in America she finally realises that there is a world outside the shell she was always confined to live in. But there are no free meals in this world, what price will Hazel for the freedom she got, will it cost her whole heart? read the book for it, because I'm not spoiling.
2. A friendship that'll make you cry? Yes
You're probably already aware that I'm a sucker for good friendships and squad. And did Hazel ends up finding a group of misfits just like her. They might be an incomplete puzzle piece on their own, but they complete each other perfectly, even if one is missing, they'll be empty inside.
3. Two Young messed up people in love :
Hazel had always been the obedient one, never going against the words of her mother, it was not until later that she knew she doesn't belong there. She never realised she needed freedom until she got it. Beautiful, messy Liam, living his life like he wants, but that is what we see the truth is darker and much more raw then we could ever imagine. They're both flawed, messed up in their own way, dealing with it together. Sometimes things turn bad for them, they end up fighting and mad, but at the end they find their way back to each other no matter what. Messed, Careless, Entangled in their own problems but still each others. Real life love is not fairytale dream, its messy, raw, consuming and sometimes ends up destroying you.
4. Touring the whole country with your band :
Concert gigs with your friends, your bandmates and the love of your life, sounds wonderful right? sleeping in the bunk beds, getting drunk, screaming in the streets, collapsing on couch, huddled up together, with no tension of future or career, no worries of what the world will think if you, because you already have the people you care about, and that's enough. Country Tours, performing in front of crowds who love you, who make you feel important and loved. Everyone of this is beautifully described by Kaisa.
5. Touches subjects such as Grief, Depression and other sensitive issues :
Kaisa did not avoid topics such as suicidal thoughts, grief, depression, death of loved ones for the sake of good, happy but unreal story. She talked about it's importance and how it can affect the well being of a person. It was raw and real, true and sensitive. I would always remember this book, and this would definitely be one of the reasons. You can visit Kaisa Winter on her her official website
